Reading Other People's Attitudesby David A. Burnet
| Introduction Everyone is an expert, but not consciously. The Coaching Tip Just about everyone is an expert at reading the underlying attitudes towards them, that other people have. Some people develop such skills consciously, people such as coaches. You can be more effective with people and help others be more effective, too...by watching the attitudes that WE have towards others. After all, nearly everyone IS an expert, if they've survived to adulthood. Just not consciously. Unconscious responses to other people's attitudes are less likely to be handled skillfully as when awareness is conscious. How does this affect you in real life? Consider this: people nearly always know, at some level, with some part of them...how you are regarding them. How you think and feel about them. Many are unconsciously reacting, sometimes very quickly. Test this: as you go through the day, be aware of your attitudes, AND your underlying attitudes towards others...and notice how they respond to you. How you are treated is very much affected by your attitudes towards those other people. Take responsibility, become more respectful, clear, truthful and loving...and the responses you evoke and elicit from others will be even more constructive and useful.
