| August NewsletterMid-Summer Contemplation I walked into Target today and saw the sign: Back to School Sale!! Already? We are only half done with summer! Thoughts started to flood my mind. I don’t want this time to go so quickly; the warmth of the sun, time to swim, fresh fruit and vegetables, BBQs, lighter-weight clothes and time with friends and family at the cabin. I love summer and feel so alive! From the moment the buds start appearing on the trees and the temp is around 50 degrees I start to anticipate summer. It’s coming, I think with joy. I can’t wait! Am I ready? What about my summer clothes? What about vacations? I need to go shopping! There is so much that happens in summer. The foliage and plants are lush, the days are longer, and everything seems to be energized. People are out walking, playing volleyball, swimming, kids are running and playing, squealing with joy, we are on vacation seeing new sights, meeting new people, and we are getting together with our neighbors; you know, everyone comes out in the summer!! As summer ends and fall approaches I start changing. I love the colors of the leaves but the days are getting shorter and the temps are getting cooler. Summer plants start dying and darker colors start to emerge. Life starts slowing down in pace. I start thinking about winter. Winter is a quieter, darker, colder, slower time of the year for me. I stay in the house more, bundle up, eat more comfort food and patiently wait for the beginning of spring again. The circle of life and seasons! What are they trying to tell me? Might it be that my life needs these seasons? To start another year of budding (growth), bursting into bloom, and then slowly cooling down to take a well deserved rest, is this what life is about? How many times a year, month, week do we do this? Nature surely has a rhythm that we can adopt for our life; a balance that allows us time to prepare, present, review over time, decide on what to keep and what to change and then we rest.
